MIDDLEBURG – Moms-to-be can now tailor their birth experience by launching the “Design Your Birth” program at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County.

The complimentary birth design and education services start during pregnancy. Women are invited to meet with their care team at The Family Birth Place and can choose their birth preferences from new amenities.

“Every woman has unique expectations for the birth of her child,” said Sadie Durham, Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer at St. Vincent’s. “The Design Your Birth program is a way for our care teams to provide personalized education about childbirth and also understand a woman’s expectations so we are ready to serve her the moment she walks through our doors.”

Women can create their own experience with options like the latest labor and delivery aids, including wireless monitoring (that allows movement), squatting bars, birthing balls, and personal touches like aromatherapy and music. A birth designer will also help moms-to-be register for childbirth classes, connect with lactation services and provide education about what to expect during labor and delivery.

“For mothers at low risk of complications who desire a more natural childbirth experience with fewer medical interventions, the Design Your Birth program provides new amenities and more personalized delivery, while still offering a high level of safety and specialized care,” Durham said.

The Family Birth Place at St. Vincent’s is a baby-friendly, GOLD safe-sleep certified organization with nursing staff trained in spinning baby techniques that help babies get into position for birth. The unit also offers infant CPR training and on-site lactation services to make sure our new parents feel prepared to take home their new bundle of joy.
