The Lord’s Prayer – Adoration

Posted

This week we look at the first in our series on “The Lord’s Prayer, Adoration. In Matthew 6:9, Jesus lays the foundation for prayer by teaching us to begin with adoration. He instructs, "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.'" This simple yet profound statement redirects our focus from our own needs to the greatness and holiness of God.

Adoration is the essence of worship—it's about expressing reverence, awe, and love for our Heavenly Father. It's not about asking for anything but rather acknowledging God's majesty and goodness simply because of who He is.

Psalm 103:1 beautifully captures the spirit of adoration, proclaiming, "Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name." This verse reminds us that adoration isn't just about words; it's a posture of the heart. It's about engaging our entire being—mind, heart, and soul—in worshipful praise of God.

When we adore God, we shift our perspective from our own concerns to the splendor and glory of His presence. We exalt His name above all else, recognizing His sovereignty over the heavens and the earth. Adoration opens our hearts to the vastness of God's love and the beauty of His character.

Adoration deepens our intimacy with God. As we worship Him in spirit and in truth, we draw closer to His heart, experiencing the fullness of His presence and the richness of His grace. In the midst of life's challenges and uncertainties, adoration anchors us in the unchanging truth of God's love and faithfulness.

As we embark on our journey of prayer, let us never underestimate the power of adoration. Let us begin each prayer with hearts overflowing with praise and gratitude for our Heavenly Father. For in adoration, we encounter the very heart of God and find rest for our souls.
