ORANGE PARK – Deputies at Orange Park Mall faced a surprising situation when they stopped three juvenile shoplifters from Belk. One was 16, and the others were 17, all wearing black “ski mask” face coverings.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old had a concealed firearm in his waistband during a pat-down. After removing the gun, the juvenile attempted to flee through the mall but was quickly apprehended. The incident sheds light on the daily unexpected challenges and dangers our deputies face, CCSO said.
The 16-year-old was charged with several offenses, including possessing a concealed firearm by a minor, resisting arrest without violence, possessing marijuana, retail theft, and wearing a mask, hood or other device on public property. The other two juveniles face retail theft charges and wearing a mask, hood or other device on public property.
