Shooting in Publix restroom leads to arrest of Jacksonville man
ORANGE PARK – An argument between two men in a Publix Supermarket restroom led to a single shot being fired, which forced the evacuation of the store.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Zion Jay Simmons, 19, of Jacksonville, was charged on Aug. 29 with burglary after he was involved in a “physical altercation” with at least one other man on Friday, Aug. 28, in the restroom at the corner of Kingsley Drive and Blanding Boulevard.
The sheriff’s office said the store was evacuated and secured after a witness said they heard a gunshot and saw several men running from the restroom. CCSO also reported nobody was shot.
The case is still being investigated, and anyone with information is asked to call Det. Sebastian Higgins at (904) 264-6512. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the SaferWatch app.
Simmons is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 6. Until then, he will remain in the Clay County Jail with a $100,003 bond.
Woman moved from Duval jail to face Clay drug trafficking charges
JACKSONVILLE – A Jacksonville woman was transferred from the Duval County Jail to Clay County on Thursday, Aug. 27, to face drug trafficking charges.
Brianna Kamil Nieves LaSalle, 25, is accused of selling 27.8 grams of methamphetamine and 5.5 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant working with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The controlled sale happened on July 27, according to an affidavit for arrest report.
According to Florida law, any amount greater than 14 grams of methamphetamine or four grams of fentanyl constitutes trafficking charges.
Judge Hector Murcia-Bustos set her bond at $275,006.
Inmate faces additional charges for selling crack cocaine
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office added new drug-related charges to a man already in custody after the agency said he sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant.
Erwin Terrell Marshall, 28, of Green Cove Springs, was also accused of selling the drug within 1,000 feet of Green Cove Springs Junior High and using his cellphone to facilitate a felony.
According to a heavily redacted arrest report, the controlled sale happened on April 2.
Marshall was already in the Clay County Jail after being arrested on July 29 for possessing cocaine and marijuana and for resisting law enforcement when the additional charges were filed on Aug. 28.
His total bond was increased to $127,513. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 29.
Man charged with shooting gun from car on Moody Avenue
ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville man was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 29, after several residents called 911 after they heard shots in the 3300 block of Moody Avenue.
Timothy Coy Morrison, 24, was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies got a description of the car. A traffic stop near Park Avenue and Kingsley Avenue led to the recovery of a handgun in the glovebox and Morrison’s arrest.
His bond was set at $25,003.
