Are you a “Big God-er” or a “Little God-er?”

Posted

Have you ever taken a thought concerning, “How big is your God?” When we focus on God and who He is there is a tendency to say we have a BIG GOD.

However, when we live out our everyday lives our behavior reveals that our view starts shrinking of God. It’s not God that shrinks it is our view of God changing. The Psalmist David writes what I call a WOW Psalm.

The Hebrew Song isn’t about God in a doctrinal or theological revelation. Rather, it is all personal. The songwriter uses these lyrics to let us know how big his God is. I suggest you read Psalm139 for yourself and see if you don’t become a BIG GOD-ER.

Psalm 139:1-6, O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

When God’s knowledge is focused on it goes beyond the mind of man’s ability to grasp. This is known in the theological realm as OMNISCIENCE. As I say at our church, in “Clayhillian” that means God knows everything. One of the most amazing realities of this knowledge is that God searches and knows me and still wants a personal relationship. That, folks is Grace, God’s undeserved favor.

The writer gets very specific, that God in His search takes note of our every movement. He knows our down sitting and uprising. Think about the God of Heaven observing and caring when you get up or sit down. He even circles the path you walk and knows when it’s your nap time (lying down). He knows every move we make, because He is acquainted with ALL my ways.

God not only knows me from the outside, my movements. He also knows me from within, my motives. He understands my thoughts from afar off. God is so knowledgeable that He is aware of the word that is on my tongue before it flows out of my mouth.

This brings King David to acknowledge the Lord knows it ALTOGETHER. Followed by, it’s too much for me to grab hold of and comprehend. David has confessed that he is a “Big God-er.”

Then the ALL- KNOWING GOD, proves that He knows just what the Psalmist needs. In verse five it statesThou hast beset me behind and before and laid thine hand upon me.” This means the Lord put a hedge around him and reached over and touched him so to speak.

When we realize how wonderful God’s knowledge is, it brings an intimate touch from God. WOW!
