FLEMING ISLAND – Friends of Augusta Save Arts and Community Center gathered on Saturday, Aug. 2, to celebrate its greatest asset – its children and the future.
Augusta’s Legacy Family Celebration was filled with music, art, dance, scripture, and, most of all, a reflection of what’s ahead through the incredible talent of children.
Artwork from the center was displayed at the Sullivan Center on the Sacred Heart Catholic Church campus, alongside photos of the legendary sculptor Augusta Savage, who was born in Green Cove Springs and was associated with the Harlem Renaissance.
There were performances by the Hickory Grove Baptist Children of Light Choir, a poem entitled “Enough” by Ansley Bivins and a dance routine called “Cover Girls” by the All Starz Dance Studio.
Village Improvement Larianne Stutts then narrated a skit called “Secret River Camp.
The signature sponsors included the City of Green Cove Springs, Hi-Liner Fishing Gear, Green Cove Springs Elks Lodge 1892, Reynolds Park Clay County Port and Brian and Jennifer Knight.
