GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Clay County Sheriff’s Office negotiators and SWAT team members successfully defused a four-hour standoff Tuesday after a man was reportedly firing shots on Cold Stream Lane.
Although the subject was firing, he was taken into custody without incident.
During the impasse, the CCSO shut down Cold Stream Lane from Fisher Oak Place to Morning Lake Court, and residents in the area were instructed to shelter in place unless they received notification from the agency to evacuate.
“This situation is under control and the road is open,” Sheriff Michelle Cook posted on social media. “Thankful for our incredibly professional SWAT and Negotiator Teams…even as the subject was firing off gunshots. Great work by our patrol deputies, too, setting up a perimeter and keeping the community safe. And solid work by our dispatchers!”
