Clay County Education Foundation stuffed with supplies

Posted

ORANGE PARK – The United Way of Northeast Florida challenged the community to brave the sweltering heat and dig deep to support the Clay Education Foundation by donating school supplies at the "Stuff the Bus" event on Friday, August 1, at the Staples store on Kingsley Avenue. Organized by Impact Clay, Staples, 101.5 radio and 99.1 WQIK, and sponsored by First Coast News, Community First Credit Union, and Turner Pest Control, the county enthusiastically accepted the challenge and filled a school bus with pencils, paper, notebooks, book bags, glue, scissors, hand sanitizer, crayons, and markers. The supplies will be stored at Garber Auto Mall and Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High to support the foundation’s mission of providing teachers with essential supplies, ensuring that students in need have access to the same resources for learning. After collecting items for 12 hours in the parking lot, student volunteers from Clay and Fleming Island highs, and Green Cove Springs Junior High, the Boy Scouts, Orange Park Rotary and Education Foundation Board members helped unstuff the bus. By making the supplies available, teachers don’t have to spend their money.
