TALLAHASSEE – The Clay County School District has jumped a letter grade to become an “A” district, according to school grades released June 27 by the Florida Department of Education.
The district improved in the percentage of possible points earned and moved to 64 percent for the 2017-18 school year, up from 61 percent and the “B” grade it got a year before. Overall, Clay County now ranks 8th in the state in the percent of possible points earned.
“These results represent the hard work, dedication, and commitment from our teachers, leaders, district staff, support staff, and board members. From day one, my vision was to strengthen teaching and learning to become an “A” school district. Clay County deserves this recognition, and I am proud to be the educational leader of this organization. I continue to be excited about the future of Clay County as a Top 10 school district! I am proud to lead, support, and work collectively with all stakeholders in order to Elevate Clay!” said Addison Davis, superintendent.
Here are some highlights from Clay County’s 2017-2018 results.
Science improved by 13 points
Middle School Acceleration improved by 14 points
Graduation Rate improved by three points
English Language Arts proficiency improved by two points
Math Bottom Quartile improved by four points
Overall Math proficiency improved by one point
All Clay County secondary schools are now rated “A” or “B”
24 out of 26 of its elementary schools, or 92 percent, are now rated “A” or “B”
Five out of 11 Title I Schools improved a letter grade
Nine of the 11 Title I Schools are now rated “A” or “B”
12 schools improved at least one letter grade. For example, Wilkinson Elementary improved from “C” to an “A.”
In terms of overall gains, 26 of 39 schools showed improvement in overall gains.
