GREEN COVE SPRINGS—Clay County Habitat for Humanity officially opened its new Green Cove office on Tuesday.

The building at 3 West St. completed construction in April and will act as the organization's main administration wing.

A 3,500-square-foot upgrade from their Middleburg location features nine new offices and a conference center.

Additionally, the building has additional property acreage, which Habitat said they would eventually begin building on a six-to-eight-home development called "Habitat Cove."

Board of Directors President Mike Youngblood said the new building is a testament to what Clay can potentially have in the future.

In addition to basking in their latest accomplishment, the organization also celebrated the past achievements of former Executive Director Carolyn Edwards, who retired after 17 years.

During her speech, Edwards expressed her gratitude for the organization's support over the years. To date, they have constructed 186 homes in the county for low- to moderate-income families.

"Our purpose is to help those who would not otherwise have an opportunity to become homeowners," Edwards said. "So, please keep that in your mind. Thank you for the support that you've given us."

Carolina Morrow will replace Edwards as executive director. Morrow said she is excited to continue the legacy and impact.

"With your support, we will continue to transform lives one home at a time, one person at a time," Morrow said. "Let's make it a day of reflection, gratitude and excitement for the future."
