Woman lying in street charged with fighting deputies, EMT, hospital clerk
ORANGE PARK – A woman now faces charges of hitting two sheriff’s office deputies, an EMT and a hospital clerk after law enforcement and fire rescue responded when she was found partially laying on Kettering Way on Oct. 9.
Cynthia Marie Taylor, 32, of Orange Park, was charged on Oct. 12 with battery against law enforcement and an EMT, as well as simple battery and resisting arrest with violence after she became enraged when the EMT tried to help her get off the street and curb. According to the arrest report, she kicked, punched, bit and spat on deputies as they tried to restrain her. Taylor was taken to HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital for evaluation.
A clerk registering a patient at the emergency room then was attacked by Taylor, CCSO said. She left one of the emergency rooms and punched the clerk in the face without warning, according to the arrest report. The arrest report stated the clerk didn’t know Taylor, and she didn’t know why Taylor became so outraged.
Taylor’s bond was set at $62,514.

CCSO: Jacksonville man arrested for selling drugs to informant
ORANGE PARK – A confidential informant working with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office helped the agency catch a man who deputies said sold $600 for dextroamphetamine on Aug. 8.
Robert Lewis Absher, 34, of Jacksonville, was arrested on Oct. 13 for trafficking since the amount sold was greater than 14 grams, according to the arrest report. He also was charged with using his cellphone to facilitate the felony.
Lewis and the informant met on Blanding Boulevard in August to complete the sale, CCSO said. According to the arrest report, the transaction was videotaped.
Absher also was charged with selling marijuana and using his cellphone to facilitate a felony on Oct. 15. That charge was the result of a $460 sale to a confidential source on July 18. CCSO then wrapped up another case involving the sale of $600 worth of amphetamine to a confidential source on Sept. 7.
Lewis’ bond for all of the drug sales was set at $260,018. His next court appearance is on Nov. 14.

Man caught selling methamphetamine to CCSO undercover deputy
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A 25-year-old Jacksonville man was arrested on Oct. 13 the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he sold 15.7 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover deputy.
According to the affidavit for arrest warrant, Dalton Wayne Carver, of Green Cove Springs, sold $185 worth of methamphetamine to an agent on Aug. 1. CCSO said the drug deal was videotaped.
Dalton’s bond was set at $75,003.

Sex offender back in jail after trying to set up internet account
MIDDLEBURG – A man on probation for attempted sexual battery of an 8-year-old girl was re-arrested on Oct. 13 for not complying with the conditions of his release.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Lester Lee Chaffin, 53, of Middleburg, failed to report his electronic device addresses and internet identifiers after his corrections officer demanded it, as well as trying to obtain an internet account in violation of his sex offender treatment program.
Chaffin was originally arrested on June 7, 2010, after he admitted to inappropriately fondling the girl. He was convicted on Nov. 15, 2010, and sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by seven years of probation.
Chaffin now is being held without bond until his next court appearance on Nov. 8.

Juvenile arrested for posting threat against Clay High on social media
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A person was arrested shortly after they posted a threat on social media that forced a lockdown at Clay High on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The Clay County School District Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced they had a juvenile in custody less than three hours after a Snapchat post where a person threatened to shoot up the school was reported Tuesday morning. The threat read: “If you go to clay high don’t come to school tmr @(username withheld) getting guns to shoot it up” (with photos of several rifles hanging on the wall).
According to CCSO, the juvenile wasn’t a student at any county school.
“We are pleased to announce the Clay County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the suspect involved in this case for disrupting a school function and threats against the school,” the agency posted on its social media platforms. “There is no additional danger to the school or the public.”
