Community celebrates Don Fann amid retirement

ORANGE PARK — Members of the community came together to celebrate the work and impact of Don Fann on Friday, March 21.

It was a bittersweet day for Fann, the former executive director of The Way Free Medical Clinic, as a crowd stopped by Town Hall to give him a “Thank you.”

Fann’s wife, Kathy, gave an emotional speech during the celebration. Holding back tears, she detailed the hard work and relentless effort that Fann put into his job.

He was described as showing them “the way” for the clinic, bringing it to the successful center that it is today. Just last year, they cut the ribbon on their new $2.6 million building on 302 College Dr. Currently, there are plans in the works to even name a special room within the clinic in his honor.

Fann received the first-ever Impact Clay award, presented by Impact Clay CEO Connie Thomas, former District 1 Commissioner Mike Cella and Mercy Support Services Executive Director R. Patrick Hayle.

Current Executive Director Andrea Crowder also gave a token of appreciation, a special book highlighting the center's journey over the years, filled with memories and signatures.

During a special toast, friends, business partners and members of the community were able to share their personal stories and well wishes with Fann.
