FLEMING ISLAND – Two 50 yard scoring runs by Wildcat quarterback Wyatt Rapoza; one returned via penalty flag, and a fumble not called a fumble were the two gamechangers for the Fleming Island Dreadnaughts Mighty Mites football team that lost a 12-6 match in their Pop Warner First Coast Conference championship game against the Jacksonville Beach Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Fleming Island High School.

With both teams trading offensive cannon shots with long runs up and the down the field, neither team could cash in inside the Red Zone until the Jaguars punched in a reverse play as the first quarter ended.

Down 6-0, Rapoza took a handoff at midfield and bounced off right tackle to go untouched to paydirt, but a penalty flag put the Dreadnaughts back at their own 20.

Raposa would strike again later in the game with a 50 yard score to tie the game at 6-6 to set up a dramatic fourth quarter goal line scenario for both teams.

With less than a minute, Jacksonville Beach sat on the Dreadnaught four yard line with a downpour making the game even more treacherous.

Three plays, three plunges through the middle of the Dreadnaught defense put the Jaguars on the one with 58 seconds to go.

On the final plunge, the Jaguars scored to go up 12-6.
