ORANGE PARK — Work has begun on a project set to provide some grand improvements to Park Avenue, according to the Town of Orange Park.

The $5.3 million Florida Department of Transportation project, awarded to Preferred Materials Inc., will cover the entirety of U.S. 17 from Doctors Inlet to Wells Road. Construction will consist of milling and resurfacing, base work, curb and gutters, traffic signals, highway signing, guardrails, bridges, sidewalks and other incidental construction.

The project, which officially commenced on May 27, is expected to be completed in early 2027, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Drivers can expect operations to take place weekly during overnight hours. Traffic will be maintained in accordance with FDOT standards. No single lane closures will be allowed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and no double lane closures will be allowed from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Also, no lane closures will be allowed within 600 feet of a signalized intersection from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Drivers seeking real-time traffic alerts are encouraged to visit FL511.com or download the FL511 app before they hit the road.
