ORANGE PARK – More than 90 volunteers started cooking side dishes three days ahead of Thanksgiving Day at the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, and more than 600 residents were rewarded by free dinner on a day that celebrates togetherness. First Baptist joined Advent Lutheran Church, Celebration Church and St. James A.M.E. Zion Church to sponsor the Feast of Plenty in the church’s gymnasium. About 200 residents ate a meal of smoked turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cornbread and rolls in the gym, while volunteers delivered more than 400 meals to the elderly, shut-ins, the disabled, those in physical rehabilitation or those working and unable to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal. What was not eaten at the church or delivered was taken to the City Rescue Mission in Jacksonville.
