FLEMING ISLAND - The Golden Eagles boys' golf team took a second place finish out of four teams, losing by one shot to Beachside and besting Creekside and Episcopal. The team was led by Senior Ryan Houck, who fired an even par 36 on the front nine of Cimarrone Golf Club. Senior Tyler Mawhinney was 2-over, with a 38, followed by Senior Carson Moore(40) and Junior Will McGready(41) to close out the 154 total for the team. Senior Alex Blom(44) and Freshman Graham Sauer(47) also played but didn't figure into the final scoring. Houck shared medalist honors with Beachside's Jaden Nacional. Three matches remain in the regular season before the team travels to Palatka for districts to start the state series matches.
The Golden Eagles boys' golf team went to defend their title at the Qdoba Tournament of Champions and finished in fourth place. Senior Tyler Mawhinney shot an overall 7-under par 137 and placed second individually. Three Golden Eagles finished in the top 10 overall, with Senior Ryan Houck and Junior Will McGready each shooting even par 144. Senior Carson Moore rounded out the scoring for the team shooting 155, 11-over par. Seniors Alex Blom(160) and Eli Lewis(164) also played but didn't figure into the team scoring. Intermittent rain played a big part in the course of the two day event with a total of 11 players shooting under par. With the team scores, the Golden Eagles moved to 11th overall in the state of all classes and to third place in the state in 2A.
In other matches around the county, Clay's boys defeated Ridgeview 160-200 Ian Garcia led the Blue Devils with a 35 score followed by teammate Jack Newell's 36 at Eagle Harbor Golf Club. Ridgeview was led by Hayden Skrzypczak with a 46 with freshman Dylan Dkrzypczak at 47.
In a dual meet with Clay at Magnolia Point, Fleming Island won a 142-162 match with Clay. Fleming Island's senior Ryan Houch shot an outstanding 33 with Tyler Mawhinney and Carson Moore both in at 36. For Clay, Jack Newell also finished at 36 with Garcia at 40 and Oliver Gilmore at 42.
Bishop Snyder hosted Clay's girls at Bent Creek and finished with a 234-252 win. Clay's Charlotte Glavin led the Blue Devils with a fifth plae 59 with teammate Lillian Bishop a stroke away with a 60 for sixth.
Clay's boys team took a 163-195 win over Orange Park at Eagle Harbor Golf Club with Ian Garcia finishing with a 37 and Jack Newell at 40. Orange Park was led by Evan Davies with a 46 and Elias Hernandez at 47.
Middleburg's boys team won at 158-193 win over St. Johns Classical Academy behind Colton Taylor's 38 at Eagle Landing Golf Club. The Broncos also had two golfers; Jackson Bork and Dylan Carey, tied for second with 40s.
St. Johns Classical was led by senior Adam Forrester's 44 with eighth grader Chase Inman hitting 46.
Fleming Island's girls golf team won a tri-meet with Clay and Palatka, 197-248-261, led by freshman Sophia Moody's 38 with teammate Shayla Abbas second with a 42 and Clay's Cora Parker third at 54.
