MIDDLEBURG - Four individual district titles highlighted the Middleburg High girls wrestling team winning their District 3-1A girls wrestling title in a muscle off with rival Oakleaf High as area girl grapplers settled in for a region and state chase in the next two weeks.

With Clay County athletes highlighted in the scrap on the mats, Middleburg won with 204.0 points with Oakleaf second at 147.5 and Bartram Trail third at 110.0. From the county, Ridgeview was eighth, Fleming Island was 10th, Clay was 12th, St. Johns Classical Academy was 13th and Orange Park was 14th.

Champions for Middleburg were Lily Bradshaw at 100, Memphis Moses at 110, Fallon Dames at 115 and Kailey Parker at 235.

For Ridgeview and Fleming Island, both with one individual champion, Shyann Schioppa won for the Panthers at 120 with Leilah Carter winning a title for Fleming Island at 125.

Oakleaf got another tough match from number one ranked Kailani Barrientos at 135 who had to face number three ranked Sarah Walsh in that final with Barrientos holding an 8-6 advantage before pinning in the third period. Both Barrientos and Walsh will face off in regions and probably at the states. Oakleaf also got an individual title to Lamees Hudson at 170 with the Lady Knights getting seconds from Tatyana Centeno at 140, Zoe Goode at 145, Kayleene Felix at 155 and Mikayla Horsley at 190.

The Barrientos vs. Walsh match was the highlight of the night with both wrestlers being state returners from last year: Barrientos the region champion at 135 and Walsh region fourth at 110. Middleburg did finish second to Flagler Palm Coast in team standings last year.

Thirds and fourths, which earn a region ticket, were earned by Sophia Walther and Maria Hernandez for Oakleaf; Toni Silcox, Iridessa Tyson, Lorena Chaput, Cyndi Almonte and Amiya Aalberg for Middleburg; Cadence Riddle, Angeline-Kiss Dominguez and Madison Shatkyvich for Clay; Zoe Fowler and Sophia Kendrick for Ridgeview; Mila Quezada and Peyton Coultis for Fleming Island and Gracelyn Gillmer for St. Johns Classical Academy.

Wrestlers travel to Mosley on Feb. 21 for the region 1-1A championships.
