ORANGE PARK—The member clubs of District IV, Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, met at the Holiday Inn & Suites on Wells Road on Friday, Oct. 17, hosted by the Garden Club of Orange Park.
The semi-annual meeting afforded club members the opportunity to meet and greet four of the newly installed Florida Federation officers and learn what new programs are being offered by FFGC, Deep South Garden Clubs, National Garden Clubs and other clubs around the district.
District IV Director Steve Davies, serving as Master of Ceremonies, introduced President Christy Linke, 1st Vice President Mary Ann Whisler, 2nd Vice President Leticia Gunn and 3rd Vice President Maria Wolfe. President Christy offered insight into her theme, “Sharing Our Knowledge—Plant the Seeds of Tomorrow.” Each officer presented information on educational opportunities for members, scholarships available to students, awards available to local clubs and news regarding Wekiva Youth Camp—the only accredited camp sponsored by a state garden club organization.
A highlight of the meeting was the announcement that one of Orange Park’s own members had submitted an article on dragonflies for the fall issue of the FFGC magazine, The Florida Gardener, and one of her accompanying photographs was selected to be on the cover of the magazine.Congratulations to Carolyn Warren, District Birds, Bees & Butterflies Chairman, for this honor.
Additionally, Past District IV Director Connie Gladding was called to the podium to receive the FFGC Hall of Fame Award for ongoing contributions to her clubs, the district and the state.Connie is a member of Green Cove Springs and Fleming Island Garden Clubs, and a Clay County Master Gardener Volunteer.Congratulations!
