GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Rotary Clubs around the world installed new presidents on Monday, but the ceremony at Green Cove Springs Rotary Club was made special when Joseph V. Smith was sworn into a one-year term by Don Arnold at Penney Retirement Community. What made the installation so special was that Green Cove Springs will turn 100 years old on Aug. 17, and the U.S. Army veteran Smith also became the first Black president in the club’s history. Smith replaced John W. Bowles, while president-elect Anna Barbary was selected as the Rotarian of the Year.
