GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The city learned of its second stunning resignation in less than a month on Monday when Michael Daniels, the Development Services Director, said he accepted a job outside the city. His final day will be July 17.

Daniels served as the director for six years, overseeing major projects such as the establishment of the city’s first Community Redevelopment Agency and the adoption of its corresponding Community Redevelopment Plan. Under his leadership, the Development Services Department made significant strides in attracting new businesses and developments to the city, and laying the groundwork for long-term growth and revitalization.

Mayor Thomas Smith unexpectedly resigned on June 16.

“We appreciate Mr. Daniels’ dedication and the positive impact he has had on the department and the city as a whole,” said City Manager Steve Kennedy. “We wish him continued success in this next chapter of his career.”

An interim department head will be announced in the coming days, and the city will begin the process of selecting a permanent replacement.
