GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The City Council took a big step in addressing its finances by setting its tentative maximum millage rate at 6.0 for fiscal year 2025-26 – a 13.21% increase compared to the current budget. The 6.0 rate is also 21.49% greater than the rolled-back rate of 4.9386.
The council held a special session on Tuesday night to initiate its budget process. It will hold budget workshops on Aug. 7 and Aug. 12, and public hearings on Sept. 3 and Sept. 16 before starting the approval process in regular sessions.
If the 6.0 rate is approved, the city’s general fund would increase by $4,728,372 to $69,501,284.
The city council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at City Hall at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be on Aug. 5.
