Green Cove Springs opens talks with EDC to lease City Hall space

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The City Council passed an emergency resolution Tuesday night during an abbreviated meeting to lease meeting space at City Hall to the Clay County Economic Development Corporation.

City Manager Steve Kennedy told the council he’s had informal meetings with EDC members who’ve expressed an interest in finding a central location to conduct business. He said there is space on the second floor that could be leased, which would generate extra funds as the city works to find additional revenue sources to pay for infrastructure projects to handle its growth demands.

“We went through the legal aspect of it,” Kennedy said. He suggested the council pass an emergency resolution to get the project started, and he would return later with other details like how many people would be using the space and how much rent would be charged.”

“I think an emergency motion to approve the resolution and the concept of what we have here,” City Attorney Jim Arnold said. “With some additional tweaking to be done, not only by our officers, but by Steve with the exact amount and so forth to be filled in, then [it can be] approved by you all at your next meeting.”

The motion passed, 5-0.

The meeting was shortened as Winter Storm Enzo quickly approached North Florida. Clay County Emergency Management said the county could receive a wintery mix, starting as early at 7 p.m. Tuesday night and lasting through noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

The City Council meets at City Hall at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
