Founder of the Duval Ocean Swimmers swim club Giancarlo Bertozzi, above, joined a bevy of brave swimmers on Saturday at the 18th annual Hammerhead Ocean Marathon Swim weekend n Jacksonville Beach and came home with a handful of action photos in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The Hammerhead swim festival, featuring ocean swim races of 1K, 2K, and 5K distances starting south and finishing at the Jacksonville Beach Fishing Pier, is staged to benefit the Jacksonville Beach Volunteer Life Saving Corps and is supported by the City of Jax Beach Ocean Rescue. The top finisher in the 5K was Brody Singley, 16, on the Episcopal Amberjax Swim Team, in one hour, nine minutes with former Fleming Island High swimmer Brian Fleischmann fifth in 1:15. Top female was Leah DeGeorge, a University of Florida and a member of the USA Junior Olympic Open Water Swim Team in 1:13. Nearly 300 swimmers participated in the three races.
