KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - With winning efforts by Baylor Ford in pole vault, Kaylee Park in hurdles and the 1600 from James Thomas, the Keystone Heights boys and girls track teams earned some spots in the upcoming region championship meet to be held at Pine Forest High in Pensacola on May 1.
Keystone Heights hosted their district meet on the newly refurbished track inside the school's football stadium.
For the boys, Palatka's sprint crew, led by a scintillating 10.31 100-meter win and an equally fast 21.08 win in the 200, won the team title with 206 points over Eastside's 143 with Keystone Heights third with 87. For the girls, Palatka also won that title with 186 points ahead of Eastside's 111 and Interlachen's 84. Keystone Heights was fourth with 83.
For the boys, Ford edged teammate Luke Lewis in the pole vault for that win with an 8-foot-4.25-inch jump with Lewis second at 7-feet-4.5-inches. Ford was also fifth in 400 hurdles at 1:02.19 with Mason Clark sixth.
Lewis was sixth in javelin at 120-feet-7-inches with Josef Ferdinand fifth.
Logan Wilson was 10th in triple jump with Ricardo Rosario 10th in shotput.
Park, first in the 100 hurdles in 16.12 was more than a second up on Interlachen's Camryn Link at 17.30 and Keystone Heights' Adalyn Phillips was seventh. Park also finished seventh in the 200 in 27.46.
In the 1600, Thomas won in 4:38.90 by almost three seconds over Luke Engels of Eastside. Indians teammate Hunter Sheppard was sixth in 4:57.54. Sheppard was also second in the 800 in 2:05.37 just a head of teammate Ryeland Wahl.
In the 3200, Hunter Gray was second in 11:01.86 with Thomas eighth.
Keystone Heights scored two in the top 10 of the 100 hurdles with Mason Clark sixth and De'Shawn Williams eighth.
Melissa Williams was fifth in the 400.
Keystone Heights also won their second 4 x 800 relay golds in a week with both boys and girls winning the event. The Indians won both 4 x 800s at the Don Hall Invite at Orange Park High two weeks ago.
In field events, Xana Briley was second in javelin with Tatum Hall earning a team point in eighth place. Briley was also fifth in discus.
For the girls distance runners, junior Olivia Griffin traded thirds with seventh grader Ryleigh Thomas with Griffin third in the 800 and Thomas third in the 1600. Thomas was fifth in the 800. Melody Tyre was fourth in the 3200.
Jamari Thomas was fifth in high jump at 5-feet-1.75-inches.
