FLEMING ISLAND – Renna Lee Paiva, president of the Clay County Education Association, signs the new teacher contract approved for school year 2016-17 while School Board Chairman Janice Kerekes smiles after signing her name. The contract allows teachers who are rated “highly effective” and are on annual contracts to receive a $700 a year raise. Teachers rated “highly effective” who work under continuing contracts will receive a $696 a year raise. And teachers who are rated “effective” will receive a $522 a year raise, which is 75 percent of the top raise rate of $700, as prescribed under Florida statutes. Paiva said the raises – which will be applied to the base teacher pay – are retroactive to August 2016, the beginning of the school year. Paiva and Kerekes signed the teacher contract at last night’s March meeting of the Clay County School Board.
