Jaguars host two days for fans

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville Jaguar head coach Liam Coen might be a bit of a cheerleader as fans at Sunday's practice session in Miller Electric practice field got encouragement from Coen during passing drills into the end zone directly in front of the fan section of the facility.

While the crew of quarterbacks, led by probably starter Trevor Lawrence, but including former Bishop Kenny standout John Wolford and Seth Henigan, a rookie out of Memphis, were tossing end zone strikes to receivers; mainly Travis Hunter, Trenton Irwin, Eli Pancol and Brian Thomas, Jr., Coen was seen waving his hands to encourage fans for end zone catches.
Coen may have been encouraging some fan participation as receivers were lauded in practice and after a solid display of catches in Friday night's scrimmage.
"Guys made plays and made some contested catches that they hadn't been making at times," said Coen, after a Friday night scrimmage in Everbank Field.
In the Friday in-house scrimmage in Everbank Field, Lawrence, with one interception, was "awesome" according to Coen with two scoring strikes to Thomas and one to tight end Brenton Strange.
"It wasn't perfect, but I thought it was a good start," said Coen, after the Friday scrimmage. "I thought he (QB Trevor Lawrence) was making sharp, fast decisions. He missed a few, but I just thought he made good, sharp decisions and drove the ball."
Fans on Friday got a special practice session and scrimmage on the Everbank Field while Sunday featured a practice session on the Miller Electric field with light scrimmages throughout.
Field goal kicker Cam Little hit three fields goals; one a 58 yarder.
Former Head coach Tom Coughlin was also introduced on the Sunday practice field after being chosen for the Jaguar's Hall of Fame. Jaguar Hall of Fame tackle Tony Boselli handed Coughlin a Pride of the Jaguars trophy before practice started.
Jacksonville opens preseason play on Saturday, August 9 with a home game against the Pittsbruy Steelers before traveling to New Orleans on Sunday, August 17 and thenb to the Miami Dolphins on August 23.
The Jags open regular season play with a home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 7 at 1 p.m.
The Jaguars look to improve on a decade of losing seasons with a 10-6 record in 2017 and back to back 9-8 seasons in 2022 and 2023; the three winning seasons under coach Doug Marrone.
