KEYSTONE HEIGHTS— In honor of his 100th birthday, the city declared Dec. 26 as John S. Fenwick Day last month.
Fenwick, a U.S. veteran, was given a hero's welcome and salute to honor his special milestone. The city, along with the American Legion and American Legion Legacy Riders, joined in on the occasion.
Fenwick was a merchant marine and World War II veteran. On August 17, he released his first book "A Number of Ways I Could've Died: And Other Adventures," detailing his vast military career spanning daring escapes and profound moments among remote corners of the world.
Keystone Heights Mayor Nina Rodenroth presented Fenwick with an official proclamation during the ceremony.
