ORANGE PARK -The Orange Park Fire Department's newest firefighter was sworn in for duty at Tuesday's town council meeting.
Jared Kiep took the oath from Orange Park Fire Chief John Contestabile in front of council, family, friends and residents. Kiep has been with the department since Sept. 3 of last year and recently came off of his probationary period.
This is Kiep's first job, and Constestabile said he is also enrolled in the paramedic program at St. Johns River State College.
"Hopefully, he'll be our newest paramedic here, in the near future," Contestabile told the council.
Jesiah Decker was also scheduled to take the oath but was unable to make it. Decker will be sworn in at a later date.

The town confirmed that Joseph Taylor will be the town's newest manager. Beginning Dec. 1, Taylor, currently the city administrator for Center Point, Iowa, will assume the role. This comes months after the town started an extensive search for its ideal candidate.
At the Oct. 7 meeting, the town approved a $167,000 contract with Taylor, who had until Oct. 10 to accept the offer.
Acting Town Manager and Finance Director John Villanueva will continue to serve in the position until Nov. 30.
