Lady Broncos crush Lincoln wrestling invite

TALLAHASSEE - Middleburg High's 135 senior wrestler Sarah Walsh and freshman Fallon Dames, at 115, continued their seasons of big wins with wins at the Lady Trojan Invitational held by district rival Tallahassee Lincoln as the Lady Broncos dominated to a 224.5 winning point total.

Lincoln finished a distinct second at 154.0 with Sandalwood third at 142.5. Oakleaf was eighth with 102.5 points.

Walson, now ranked third at 135 with Oakleaf's Kailani Barrientos at the top, finished off Isabella Tran of Choctawhatchee in just over a minute to get her individual gold with teammate Lily Bradshaw finishing second at 100 against Lincoln's Sayuri Caceres, ranked fifth. Bradshaw is ranked eighth and also slowly moving upwards in the state rankings.


Middleburg also got a second from Kailey Parker at 235 with Parker now ranked 21st.


Also with top finishes for Middleburg were Lorena Chaput, fifth at 140; Riley Toomey, sixth at 135; and Toni Silcox, seventh at 105.


Oakleaf got a second at 145 from Zoe Goode with a pin over St. Augustine's Taylor Pelchat. Goode is ranked 11th. Lamees Hudson was third at 190 with Kayleen Felix fifth at 155, Maria Hernandez fifth at 120 and Mikayla Horsley seventh at 190. For Fleming Island, 18th ranked Leilah Carter finished fourth at 125, Mila Quezada was fourth at 170 and Peyton Coultis was seventh at 235. Coultis was a medal winner at the recent region girls weightlifting championships on Thursday.

Broncos hit tough crowd in Estero
No. 2- Loveland beats No. 3 McDaniel

ESTERO - With a plethora of state powerhouses from all classes including South Dade, Somerset, St. John Neumann and Charlotte, the Middleburg High boys wrestling team got an eighth-place finish and third place finishes from Daniel Raines and Porter Loveland in a rugged weekend in south Florida.


Somerset, a recent visitor to Clay High's Rotary Invite (third), won with a 229.5-210 over South Dade with St. John Neumann third. Middleburg was 12th with 102 points.


St. Johns Country Day School had three wrestlers travel the distance with third ranked 1A 157 Howard Hill taking third at 150 with a third period pin over 8th ranked 2A Jensen Beach's Tavien Smith.
Loveland, ranked second 2A at 215, finished third with a 9-0 win over third-ranked 2A Freedom McDaniel of Braden River with Loveland piling on nine second period points off an escape, takedown and a near fall near the end of the period.
Raines, ranked seventh 2A at 157, took his third with a 7-4 win over 14th ranked 1A Terrence Hinson of Florida High with seven third period points.

Oakleaf boys seventh at Flagler

FLAGLER PALM COAST - In another strong field of state contenders featuring 3A fourth ranked Hagerty, 3A 10th ranked Flagler Palm Coast and 3A eighth ranked Tocoi Creek, plus numbers five and six in Class 2A—Gulf Breeze and Winter Springs—Oakleaf High's boys wrestling team got two individual champions, Connor Barnes and Sebastian Bonachea, en route to a seventh place finish among 40 teams at the Flagler Rotary Invitational at Flagler Palm Coast High on Saturday.

Barnes and Bonachea, both ranked in Class 3A top 10 for their weight classes—sixth for Barnes in 126 and third in 138 for Bonachea—won in dominating fashion at Flagler with perfect records. Barnes had five wins with four first period pins into the final that he won with a tech fall at 22-6. Bonachea had a finals pin after three tech falls and a pin on his scoring card.

Also, for Oakleaf, Chris Jules at 285 finished fifth.
Hagerty, No. 2 in Class 3A, won with 246.5 points with Flagler second at 220. Oakleaf scored 133 for seventh with Fleming Island 15th, Ridgeview 26th, Orange Park 27th and Keystone Heights 37th.


Top finishers for Fleming Island included Zion Longmire at 175 with a sixth-place finish; Sebastian Campbell at 190 with a 4-2 slate; Aaron Crosby at 157 with a 3-3 slate and a quarter finals loss to Creekside's Luke Manghisi, the eventual runner-up; and Matthew Braddock with a bloodied nose finishing at 3-2 at 144.
Orange Park got top finishes from Terrion Butler at 4-2, Elijah Grant at 3-2 and Donovan Hall at 106 at 3-2 with a quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Chase Wolgamuth of Hagerty—third ranked in Class 3A.

Ridgeview got top finishes from Tanner Rogers at 126 at 3-2 with a prelim loss to eventual runner-up Ryder Cohen of Gulf Breeze who lost to Oakleaf's Connor Barners and Samual Costanzas at 150 at 3-2.


Keystone Heights had two wrestlers at 2-2 with Jackson Kehler at 157 and Baron Bryson at 150.
