LAKELAND - Oakleaf High senior 169 pound weightlifter Noah Shevchook, the 154 Class 3A state champion last year, is holding a 20 pound advantage after the Olympic Snatch portion of the FHSAA Class 3A state championships in Lakeland on Thursday.
Shevchook finished his Olympic Snatch three lifts with lifts of 240, 255 and 265 with Olympic Heights High' Elan Mostun putting up a 245 third lift.
In the Clean and Jerk, Shevchook has a 305 opening lift with Mostun to open at 325. Shevchook and Mostun are the only two lifters in the 169 bracket to be opening over 300 pounds.
In the Traditional scoring, where Bench Press is added to Clean and Jerk, Shevchook is set to open at an astounding 355 with Mostun only at 225. Shevchook could be challenged by teammate Walker Weathers in bench press with an opening lift at 340. Walker is only competing in Traditional scoring and has already completed his Clean and Jerk with a best of 260.
Around the Oakleaf roster, at 129, Daniel Israel cleared 160 in Olympic Snatch with a miss at 170 with the top lift in the bracket at 200. In clean and jerk, Israel hit 200 and 210 already with one more lift. Top clean and jerks at this point 220 and 215. Flagler Palm Coast's Cody Strawser, who hit the 200 in Olympic Snatch, is set to open clean and jerk at 240.
Also in 129, Ari Simon hit 150 and 160 in Olympic Snatch with a miss at 170 and has a top lift of 195 in Clean and Jerk.
At 139, Garvens Bonhomme, only in Traditional, has a 200 top lift in Clean and Jerk with six lifter above 200; the leader at 265.
At 199, Lucius Manley has a 225 top lift in Olympic Snatch with three lifts above that with a 285 first lift in Clean and Jerk with a miss at 300. One other lifter has a 300.
At 238, Ethan Simons has a 260 in Olympic Snatch but two misses; at 275 and at 280. In Clean and Jerk, Simons has a 340 with misses at 340 and 355. Deland's Peyton Mckenzie has a 315 in Olympic Snatch and a 370 best lift in Clean and erk with Roan Strom of Niceville set to open his Clean and Jerk at 370. Strom has a 290 best Olympic Snatch.
