OP Town Council discusses delaying new town manager pick

ORANGE PARK- Council members discussed making Interim Town Manager William Whitson’s role more permanent at Tuesday’s meeting.

Mayor Randy Anderson spearheaded the conversation by expressing his contentment with Whitson’s work in the town.

“He impressed us within the first two weeks,” Anderson said. “Let’s see what else he can do.”

The council previously issued a Request for Proposals for an Executive Search Firm in October for the position.

Colin and Baenziger and Associates, LaCire, MGT, Sunshine Enterprise, WBCP and WolfCreek Consulting submitted six proposals.

Instead of officially picking a firm at the meeting, Anderson suggested holding off for 60 or 90 days.

“That might prevent us from spending $30,000,” Anderson said.

Enough time allows Whitson’s work to be further evaluated as a plausible long-term solution.

Other council members followed suit and agreed. They will discuss the evaluation and next steps during the council meeting on Jan, 7.
