CCSO: Speeder back in jail after skipping pretrial hearing

FLEMING ISLAND – A man wanted for riding his motorcycle between 80 to 85 mph on U.S. Highway 17 on Oct. 27, 2024, was arrested on Feb. 19 for not appearing for a pretrial hearing after his bond was revoked.

Garrett Joseph Jammes, 31, of Fernandina Beach, will now remain in the Clay County Jail without bond until his next pretrial hearing on March 24 where he faces charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement with lights and siren active and reckless driving.

According to an affidavit for arrest report dated Oct. 27, 2024, a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy was conducting static traffic enforcement on U.S. 17 when he noticed Jammes riding his motorcycle at nearly 85 mph without a helmet, eye protection or a windshield in a section with a posted speed limit of 45 mph.

He tried to pull the motorcycle over, but Jammes looked back at the deputy and accelerated away, but not before the deputy radioed the tag number to 911 dispatch. Since the speed was so fast and Jammes ran a red light, the deputy stopped the chase.

Another deputy saw Jammes run another red light, but he was unable to pursue.

Sheriff Michelle Cook then got behind Jammes, and she saw him run another red light on Park Avenue in Orange Park. A fourth deputy pulled beside the motorcycle, and he was able to identify the rider as Jammes.

Jammes was eventually arrested on May 7, 2025. He missed several court appearances because he was incarcerated at the Nassau County Jail, but he was released before his Jan. 12 appointment.

Maryland woman charged with swindling Keystone Heights senior

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A woman with a lengthy criminal record was transported from the Frederick County, Maryland, Jail to the Clay County Jail to face three charges related to scamming a 74-year-old Keystone Heights woman out of money from her Capital City Bank account.

Tiffany Anne Baker, 48, was charged with two counts of swindling another to obtain property of value and one count of impersonating someone 60 years or older to obtain property of value after a woman noticed withdraws were made from her account.

Bank officials in St. Johns and Putnam counties and Gainesville helped the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police Department link the withdraws to Baker, who lives in Maryland. Court records there show her criminal record includes assault, burglary, theft, uttering a false document, forgery, possession of narcotics, shoplifting, credit card fraud and criminal use of personal information.

Her bond in Clay County was set at $200,009.
