Alert Clay County Sheriff’s Public Service Aide leads to arrests for meth, stolen truck, pistol

MIDDLEBURG – Two men and a woman were in jail April 21 with bonds totaling more than $550,000 after an alert Public Service Aide with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office realized their Chevrolet pickup was reported stolen in Jacksonville, which led to a search that recovered 36.6 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun.
The PSA officer was in the Walmart parking lot at 1580 Branan Field Rd. When deputies arrived, they found Melissa Ann Ruppel, 32, of St. Augustine standing near the driver’s door, Jeffery Allen Mesker, 36, of Jacksonville in the back seat behind the driver’s seat and Daniel Morris Groves, 37, of Baldwin in the passenger seat.
All three were charged with armed trafficking of methamphetamine.
The drugs were divided in several small plastic bags and dispersed in several locations in the truck, according to the arrest report. Deputies also found used and unused syringes, as well as a gun reported stolen in Nassau County in 2014.
Groves was being held in the Clay County Jail with a $350,003 bond, while Mesker and Ruppel each had bonds totaling $100,003.

Pair caught after trying to rob Orange Park man at gunpoint

LAKESIDE – An Orange Park man and a juvenile were jailed after they tried to rob a man at gunpoint on April 20.
Kenneth Jour Tresvant, 20, of Orange Park was booked in the Clay County Jail after being charged with armed burglary and robbery, as well as possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. The juvenile was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a man was getting something out of his car on Commanche Ct. in Orange Park when the juvenile pointed a gun at him to rob him. When Tresvant and the juvenile tried to rummage through the car, the victim ran into his house and called the sheriff’s office.
Tresvant and the juvenile were spotted less than a half-mile away on Mesquite Avenue. A search resulted in the discovery of 2.9 grams of marijuana in the center console and a stolen handgun under the driver’s seat.
Tresvant remained in the Clay County Jail on Monday with bonds totaling $305,009.

CCSO: Woman in jail after punching stepmom, biting sheriff deputy

MIDDLEBURG – A family argument turned violent when a woman attacked her stepmother, and then fought with sheriff deputies on April 18.
Nichole Lynn McKellip, 37, of Middleburg was arrested and charged with domestic assault, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and criminal mischief for breaking the back-door handle of a Clay County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.
According to the arrest report, McKellip’s parents went to her house to check on her because they said “she is known to get drunk and cause problems in her house.” When they arrived McKellip attacked her stepmother and suffered a black eye when her father tried to fend off the attack.
Once deputies arrived, McKellip continued to fight, deputies said, by biting an office on the chest near his name tag. She also kicked the car, breaking the door handle.

Middleburg woman nabbed for armed robbery, throwing beer

MIDDLEBURG – A woman was awakened during an armed robbery by another woman throwing a beer at her, sheriff’s deputies said.
Tina Marie Burgess, 33, of Middleburg was charged with armed burglary, maliciously damaging more than $1,000 worth of the victim’s property, criminal mischief, taking the victim’s car keys and striking her with the beer during a robbery on April 21, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the arrest report, Burgess entered a home on Sesame Street while the victim was asleep. After being struck with the beer, the victim locked herself in a room and called the police.
When deputies arrived, they found Burgess inside yelling and breaking items.


Woman caught by deputies after hiding under pile of clothes

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Police found a woman wanted for exploiting a disabled elderly man hiding in clothes basket last Wednesday.
Rosina Jeanette Moore was arrested for violation of her parole for exploiting a senior citizen and with disguising her identity to hinder or interrupt a police officer in the performance of his duty.
Moore originally was arrested in 2016 for charging more than $12,000 on victim’s credit card. The man originally didn’t want to press charges, but he changed his mind at the insistence of his family after she failed to repay the debt.
A new warrant was issued April 15 when she violated her parole, Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
When they arrived at her home, she identified herself as her sister, Jerri Lynn Moore, the arrest report stated. While deputies interviewed a man at the home about her true identity, Moore went to the bathroom and eventually tried to hide under a pile of clothes.

Couple jailed after woman bites, scratches young boy

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A couple were arrested April 20 after a woman bit and scratched a child during a scuffle.
Victoria Gracelynn Greenway, 20, of Orange Park and Gregory Allen Stacy, 29, of Green Cove Springs were charged with child abuse after they forced their way into the victim’s home, followed by Greenway attacking a boy, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The boy, who was home with his younger sister, tried to restrain Greenway and was bitten on the right arm. The victim also had large scratches on his neck and chest.

Middleburg woman killed in Bradford County head-on collision

 

LAWTEY – A 52-year-old woman from Middleburg died early Tuesday when she veered into on-coming traffic on County Road 225 in Bradford County.

Sharon Johnson’s Kia Soul crossed the center line and hit head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Justin Stone, 29, of Bryceville, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Stone was taken to UF Health in Gainesville in serious condition.

Man on parole for attempted sexual battery on child back in jail

MIDDLEBURG – A 60-year-old man originally charged with trying to commit sexual battery on a child younger than 12, was arrested on April 18 for violating his parole.

Larry Edward Weston, of Middleburg, is being held without bond in the Clay County Jail.
