Student cited for hitting crossing guard

OAKLEAF – A 16-year-old Oakleaf High student was cited for failing to yield the right of way by the Florida Highway Patrol after an early morning traffic accident on Plantation Oaks Boulevard.

FHP said Jackson Joseph Hickey was driving a 2003 Jeep Cherokee on Aug. 27 at 7:04 a.m. when he struck school crossing guard Barbara Ann Koranda, 76, of Middleburg.

Police said Koranda was wearing a reflective vest and holding up a stop sign when she was struck and there was a yellow flashing light along the roadway alerting drivers of the crosswalk.

Koranda was treated for minor injuries at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Clay County, while Hickey was cited by police.

Man charged with beating pregnant girlfriend

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Jacksonville man was extradited from the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Center to face charges he allegedly beat his pregnant girlfriend.

The Green Cove Springs Police Department obtained a warrant for the arrest of David Michael J. Jordan, 26, who was officially charged on Aug. 22 at the Clay County Jail.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident took place on November 22, 2017 when the victim called local police and said she had been battered.

“She advised me her boyfriend David Jordan grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall,” states the warrant.

That night, the victim told police she and Jordan had been dating for about 8 months and living together for more than a month in the 1000 block of Pinewood Court in Green Cove Springs. She also told police that this was not the first time he had attacked her.

Police said, that at the time of the first interview, the victim said Jordan had taken her phone and refused to give it back to her.

Jordan is charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant female and petit theft.

At press time, Jordan remained in the Clay County Jail where his bond is set at $25,755.

Intoxicated man charged for shooting at neighbor’s home

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Police found that alcohol played a role in a man shooting a gun into the inside of his neighbor’s home recently in Keystone Heights.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Edward Lamar Williams, 52, a resident of the 6600 block of Geneva Oaks Circle, on Aug. 22 at 9:16 p.m. after an investigation.

The victim – Williams’ next-door neighbor – told police that he was sitting outside of his residence “when he heard a loud band which resembled a gun shot,” states the CCSO report.

The victim told police that he found a bullet inside his home that appeared to have come from the direction of his Williams’ home.

During the police call, officers interviewed Williams’ girlfriend who witnessed the incident, however, CCSO officials redacted her comments from the police report.

Williams faces one count each of shooting a missile into a dwelling and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. At press time, he remained in the Clay County jail where his bond is set at $125,005.
