ORANGE PARK – At the end of last year’s Clay Today Active After 50 Expo, event coordinator Sara Malone polled some of the attendees about what they liked about the massive show dedicated to providing information on active aging for those 50 and older.
A driving thunderstorm provided a captive audience, and it helped Malone gather valuable information. What she learned was that they liked it all.
“We expect to grow last year’s numbers,” she said as the seventh annual Clay Today Active After 50 Expo will return to the Thrasher-Horne’s Conference Center on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year’s event will feature nearly 60 vendors, providing information on travel, entertainment, health insurance, legal advice, healthy living, products, services, screenings, recreation, dance exhibitions, giveaways, hobbies, finance, housing options and senior care.
“Many of last year’s vendors were very pleased with last year, and they’re coming back,” Malone said. “We have a great group of new vendors as well to kind of bring new life into the event.”
More than 1,000 attended last year’s free expo.
Attendees can learn how to play pickleball, the world’s fastest-growing sport, in a room with a full-size court. Instructors will provide the equipment.
Malone said another popular topic is health.
“A group that's always interested in the medical information,” she said. “That's vague as well, because some people say medical, but they mean insurance. So, that's just understanding the breadth of Medicare, as well as some Medicaid options. People really like learning about that.
“We also have travel agents and space spas and fun things.”
Two different dance troops will perform, including belly dancers.
