Rodriguez takes on 10th IRONMAN triathlon

JACKSONVILLE - Cancer survivor Soledad Rodriguez, 55, uses an endurance event as her way to keep perspective on her 10-year battle with breast cancer.

Rodriguez, a Barco-Newton YMCA fitness instructor and full-time nurse, spent Saturday, May 16, swimming 2.4 miles in the St. Johns River, cycling 112 miles from Riverside to Ponte Vedra and back, then running three nine-mile loops around downtown Jacksonville as part of a marathon run to finish her day at the IRONMAN Jacksonville race.

"Ten years ago they told me I wouldn't be able to do this,” said Rodriguez, known by her friends as Cholita. "I figure if I can survive cancer I can do an IRONMAN."

This is an ongoing story. See more race action and thoughts from Rodriguez in Clay Today Sports.
