GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Fairgrounds was filled with the sights of men in kilts, the sounds of bagpipes and the smell of smoking turkey wings last Saturday during the Northeast Florida Scottish Games. The annual event attracts thousands of guests who came to celebrate their clan lineage, play highland games like ax throwing, archery, caber toss, sheaf toss, hammer throw, weight over bar and weight for distance throw and pipes and drum competition. Clay County has become a home for Scottish competitions. In addition to the annual Northeast Florida games, the fairgrounds played host to the 2024 Scottish Highland Games Masters World Championships last October.
