FLEMING ISLAND – Buoyed by an all-star lineup that included U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean and Sheriff Michelle Cook, the Clay County Special Olympics team raised an astounding $8,683.45 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, during the Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at Longhorn Steakhouse. Clay County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Zach Cox, who organizes the Special Olympics team, said the three-day Tip-A-Cop at Longhorn raised $19,573.64 to easily beat last year’s record collection of $16,097. The money will support the cost of year-round training, competition expenses, uniforms, equipment, transportation and lodging for the State Games at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World and athlete wellness programs at no cost for athletes and their families. Including the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run and Tip-A-Cop at the Texas Roadhouse in Orange Park, Cox said the community rallied this year to support the team for a record total of $35,783.64.
