FLEMING ISLAND - With all five golfers posting 80s-or-less, St. Johns Country Day School boys golf team edged host Fleming Island at the third annual Randy Warren Memorial Golf Tournament held Monday at the Fleming Island Golf Club.
Led by freshman Fletcher Cummings' 73 and senior William McGready, a transfer from Fleming Island's state qualifying team last year, the Spartans had 301 to finish third and just ahead of Fleming Island at 306.
At the top, Providence got 68s by Alexander Stewart and Ethan Grossman, both seniors, to beat Port Orange Spruce Creek, 281-293. The Hawks's top score came from freshman James Stricklin, who carded a 70. Two Spruce Creek players had 74s, and another player had a 75.
Providence's five scores were two 68s, 72, 73 and 78.
Fleming Island' s top finish was a 72 by Caden Robinson. Colden Cheatham finished at 77.
Oakleaf and Middleburg tied for 12th with 329s to finish ahead of West Nassau and Columbia in the 16-team field. Oakleaf's top finisher was junior Jacob Downs with a 72, while Middleburg senior Logan Wahlstrom posted a top score of 72 to tie for fifth, individually.
Orange Park senior Michael Susser finished with an 82.
