Terry Rollen

Posted

After almost two years to the day, Terry Ann Harris Rollen, 75, of Orange Park, Florida, was reunited with her beloved husband, Terry. She passed peacefully on September 21, 2023. An inspirational couple to so many, Terry and Terry’s contributions to their community will be sorely missed.

Terry was born to Sam and Margaret Harris on October 15, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama. Known from an early age for the calm, sweet demeanor she would maintain throughout her life, she enjoyed Girl Scouts, playing piano, and participating in activities such as the YMCA, where she was crowned Miss Gra-Bowl in middle school. She graduated from Ramsay High School and went to Auburn University, earning an education degree in 1968. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and became a lifelong fan of the Tigers football team. On a Homecoming blind date during her first quarter, she met the love of her life, with whom she would maintain a true “War Eagle” romance, even once he left to begin his Naval career. Terry and Terry were married on the winter solstice in 1968, starting an unbreakable fifty-three years together.

(He) Terry’s Naval career led them to many towns – Norfolk, Monterey, Key West, Patuxent River, Orlando, Alexandria, and Titusville. But it was Jacksonville and Orange Park that they came to call home over three stints – the last beginning in 1987 and spanning the remainder of their lives. Along the way, they raised their son, Scott, and daughter, Suzanne.

Terry was a woman of boundless compassion and endless generosity, always giving selflessly of her time and resources to causes big and small. As an active member of the Methodist church, she participated in women’s circles, bible studies, volleyball leagues, and handbell choir, to name a few. She truly found her calling as a community leader in Orange Park when she assumed the leadership of The Clothes Closet and Food Pantry in 1990, where she earned Reinhold service awards and oversaw significant growth of the charity until her retirement in 2021.

First and foremost, Terry had an unwavering devotion to her faith, her family, and her many friends. She was a deeply loving, patient, and committed wife, mother, and grandmother, and her beautiful, kind soul touched the lives of so many who were blessed to call her a friend.

Terry was preceded in death by Terry, her parents, Sam and Margaret Harris, and her sister-in-law, Joyce Rollen. She is survived by her brother Don Harris (Michael), son Scott (Stephanie), daughter Suzanne, and grandchildren Justin and Audrey.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Orange Park Methodist Church. The service will be led by Revs. Bob and Linda Standifer at 10:00am and a reception will follow. A private interment will be held for the family at Jacksonville National Cemetery, where Terry will be buried alongside her husband.
