• The Oakleaf High boys basketball team beats Creekside, 75-72, to win its first district championship.

• A Clay County judge rules a mortgage company is owed $4 million by the Rodeway Inn in Orange Park, and it can take managerial control of the beleaguered property.

• The Clay County Commissioners vote to approve spending $78,000 to address traffic congestion in the Oakleaf area.

 20 years ago, 2006

• A 15-person board unanimously approves a plan to add a ballot initiative to increase the BCC with two at-large commissioners.

• Orange Park’s Tim Smith chases a man he said stole his truck after he left his keys in it while he did some landscaping work. Smith caught the man after he crashed, tackled him and held him until the police arrived.

• W.E. Cherry Elementary teacher Lindsay Henderson is selected as the 2006-07 Teacher of the Year.
