• After being pushed back by nearly a half-year by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercy Support Services moves into its new office at 515 College Dr. in Middleburg.

• Residents and the BCC become more impatient with Waste Management as trash and recycling delays mount as the company continues to struggle with a lack of workers due to COVID-19.

• A monument is unveiled at Neptune Park to honor the crew of nine aboard a Navy plane that crashed on June 14, 1951, on Fleming Island.

10 years ago, 2016

• Orange Park’s Andrew Brown is selected as the Dentist of the Year by the Florida Dental Association.

• Former students of Dunbar High, Clay County’s only all-Black school prior to public school desegregation in the 1960s, unite at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island to share photos, memories and stories.

• Gordon Chevrolet, in conjunction with the North Florida Classic Chevy Club, helps raise nearly $6,000 for the Middleburg Athletic Association.

20 years ago, 2006

• The BCC terminates its contract with the Clay County Behavioral Health Center to provide counseling services for clients of the county’s drug court.

• The Skate Place celebrates its one-year anniversary on Fromhart Street in Orange Park. The popular town-owned skateboarding park was renovated by a group of parents in 2005.

• A special unit is created at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to address underage drinking parties.

30 years ago, 1996

• Clay High Athletics Director Bob Glod announces the hiring of Frank Wickes, formerly of Mandarin, as its new head basketball coach.

• The Clay Hill community and the Prime Cuts 4-H Club mourn the loss of Nathan Lassiter, 16, who was killed in an accident near his home.

• The county commission sends a 287.1-acre rezoning proposal to develop more of Eagle Harbor to the Florida Department of Community for review despite the objections of residents who said it would bring more traffic and noise.
