• State prosecuters take the death penalty off the table after Jacquilla Bullard agrees to plead guilty to manslaughter after she shot her husband Jerry Ray Bullard.
• County Commissioners voted unanimously to remove Rescue 19 from Orange Park.
• Superintendent Addison Davis said he would rather see teacher armed with information instead of firearms.

10 years ago, 2013
• More than 20 students from Murray State spend Spring Break helping Clay County Habitat for Humanity build a new home.
• Green Cove Springs receives bids ranging from $5.6-$5.9 million for a new police department headquarters.
• JEA spends a week removing EZBase, which contains traces of mercury, chromium, vanadium, arsenic and lead, from Steve Johnson’s property in Middleburg.

20 years ago, 2003
• Despite pleas from parents, the school board decided not to overturn Superintendent David Owens’ decision to end block scheduling.
• The board of commissioners adopt a plan to charge developers $2,000 for new construction.
• The Clay County Humane Society celebrates its grand opening on Filmore Street in Orange Park.

30 years ago, 1993
• Former county parks program director Scott Diehl, who called administrators “sinners” after he was fired, files a federal lawsuit against Clay County claiming he was unfairly discharged.
• Three men and a woman, all from Orange Park, are arrested on drug and grand theft charges by Clay County and Jacksonville sheriff’s office deputies following a month-long investigation.
• The school board votes create vice principal positions at all four of its junior highs.

40 years ago, 1983
• County commissioners set a goal of starting the Clay County Fair by 1984.
• A truck carrying explosive materials is found and sent to Cecil Field after it was stolen.
• While the state’s crime rate dropped by 5% compared to figures from 1982, Clay County’s crime rose by 1.6%, according to Sheriff Jennings Murrhee.
