• Family and friends of Army Staff Sgt. Dick Alson Lee, Jr., 31, meet for a memorial service in Keystone Heights after he was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.
• Paul Piner, a 10-year-old boy from Fleming Island, is picked to spend six weeks at the Bolshoi Ballet Summer Dance Intensive program in Middlebury, Connecticut.
• The Department of Children and Families join forces with other child agencies after cases of children endangered by drug-related issues rise from 13 to 26 in one month.

• A 3-year-old Middleburg boy is airlifted to the hospital after he was viciously attacked by a pit bull at a birthday party.
• A lack of money and size of classrooms were the main topics of discussion at the Community Forum on Public Education in Clay County.
• Clay County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Wilson Walker’s name is added to the Police Memorial Wall in Tallahassee, eight years after he died from lung disease caused by the chemicals used to bring out fingerprints on paper.

• Gwendlen Dowell Benton was arrested for armed robbery less than two hours after she was featured on America’s Most Wanted television show in connection with the holdup of Kingsley Jewelers in Orange Park more than three years earlier.
• The Clay County Board of Commissioners vote to separate itself from the Putnam/Clay Economic Opportunities Agency.
• The county’s new administration building in Green Cove Springs opens.
