JACKSONVILLE - Three top runners for Fleming Island High - one who will return in the fall for the cross country season - highlighted the nearly 1,700 runners who stepped out on July 4 in Jacksonville for the Celebration 5K. Cities all over America celebrated the holiday with quick jaunts.

Graham Myers, Kameron Wallizada and Ryder Muyres, all Fleming Island High cross country and track standouts, ran to finishes of fourth-, seventh- and 10th-place finishes for the 3.1 mile run near the 1st Place Sports headquarters on Baymeadows Avenue.

Myers, 19, a University of Florida track steeplechase record holder last season, hopes to do the same at Florida State University in the fall, was fourth with a time of 15 minutes, 8 seconds to finish behind race winner Joshua Brett's winning time of 14:54. Myers younger brother Judson, 14, was 16th in 18:36.

Myers was part of Fleming Island's 4 x 800 relay state championship team in 2024, and he was a five-time a top-three finisher at the FHSAA cross country state meet.

At Florida, Myers was fourth in the Southeastern Conference 3,000 meter steeplechase and he also set a school record with an 8:34.68. Myers was 16th in the NCAA East Preliminary championships in steeplechase.

Second place went to Sem Sultanov, 29, a former Mandarin High and University of North Florida star, in 14:56, while third place went to Darren Harman, 27, in 14:59 in one of the closest finishes in recent Celebration 5K history. Harman won a truckload of state cross country and track titles, and while he was at Utah State.

"This is always a fast race because of the college kids," said Wallizada, who was seventh in 16:02. "I'm just going to try and hang with the leaders."

Wallizada, who recently graduated from North Florida, ran in multiple track and cross country races for North Florida.

Muyres, 16, finished 10th in 17:05 with sister Lucy, 10, winning her age group in 22:25.

For the women, Madison Patchan, 20, won decisively, in 17:58, with a quick breakaway from runner-up Daisy Ross, 19, a recent graduate of Ponte Vedra High (18:21), while third-place Heather Henning, 39, finished in 18:43. Patchan was a Class 4A eighth place cross country finisher, while Ross finished fifth in Class 3A.
