KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Twisted Oaks, a nonprofit organization, is partnering with Clay County Animal Service to provide free spay and neuter services for low-income dog owners.

“I like to thank Clay County Animal Services for partnering with us for the best of the community pets,” Twisted Oaks founder Jessie Shekels said.

Though the free service is available for all pet owners living in Clay County, anyone from Keystone Heights will automatically qualify for the service if they schedule through Twisted Oaks.

Thanks to the partnership with granting organization Florida Animal Friend, Clay County Animal Services can provide free services. Pet owners will be able to get their dogs fixed and get a rabies vaccine, wellness exam and a microchip for free. Pet owners also can get additional vaccines for $5.

The owner must provide transportation to their appointment at Clay County Animal Services. Twisted Oaks is willing to help pet owners in Keystones Heights transport their dogs to Twisted Oaks for their appointment. The service is also available for stray dogs.

Overall the results have been positive.

“We just hit 100 dogs, and I think we are halfway there,” Shekels said. “There are another 100 spots before the grant is up.”

In addition, pet owners are grateful to be able to spay and neuter their dogs without worrying about the expenses.

“It’s a great service to the community,” one pet owner said.

Twisted Oaks works to keep families and their pets together. This organization offers a variety of pet services that assist low-income pet owners. They provide low-cost medical services like vaccinations and microchips.

The organization provides pet supplies through its pet pantry and hosts pet events like adoptions and pet education.
