CLAY COUNTY — After officially breaking ground in December, Fire Station 1 is almost ready to open its doors.
The new location off Brannan Mill Boulevard, north of Old Jennings Road is 66% complete with a projected completion date of this fall. It will be the first time in 25 years that the county has opened a new station.
It's part of a $65 million bond appropriated by the county back in 2024, which also included a new Fire Station 22 on Fleming Island. Located on County Road 220 at Arena Road, construction is 87% complete. When it opens, it will replace the current one on Pine Avenue.
According to Fire Rescue Chief Lorin Mock, both are strategic locations allowing for a higher level of service and quicker response times for residents.
And there are more on the way.
Fire Stations 5, 13, 15, 16, 21 and 24 are also in the works. The design for Station 15 in Lake Asbury is 90% complete and is projected to be completed by next summer.
