Aileen White Lewis, 82, of Middleburg, Florida, passed into glory on February 10, 2024, with her husband Ed and her son Mike at her side. Aileen was a devoted follower of Jesus and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She worked for Mack Trucks and the FBI before spending the last 30 years of her working life at the U.S. Post Office General Mail Center in Jacksonville, FL. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Middleburg for over 45 years.
Aileen was born July 8, 1941, in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Leonard C. White and Lottie Lord White. In 1963, Aileen moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where she met her husband, Ed Lewis. They were married October 24, 1964, at Woodstock Park Baptist Church. Aileen and Ed moved to their property on Black Creek in Middleburg in 1974. They lived in the house Ed and his friends built for the next 43 years. When floodwaters from Hurricane Irma destroyed the home in 2017, they rebuilt a new house on pilings two feet higher than Irma’s floodwaters and enjoyed living among the tree-tops the rest of her life.
Aileen was a gentle, loving, follower of Jesus who enjoyed studying, reading, sharing, and memorizing God’s Word. During her time at First Baptist, she taught children’s Sunday School, sang in the choir, participated in mission trips, and served on the prayer ministry team. In her retirement years, Aileen organized her church’s Loving Touch Ministry visitation teams, striving to ensure those who were home-bound, hospitalized, or in a nursing home received a loving touch and visit from their church family. She was a charter member and historian of the Jacksonville Society of F.B.I. Alumni. Aileen loved gathering people together. She planned and facilitated family reunions for her family in Georgia and she enjoyed hosting Thanksgiving reunions for Ed’s family at their home on Black Creek.
Aileen was preceded in death by her brothers Wayne and Melvin White. Aileen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ed Lewis, her son, Michael, her daughter-in-law, Lesli, and her grandchildren, Michael Jr., Cameron, Kelly, and Sadie. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Claudia Lewis, Jim and Jackie Lewis, Gale White, and her sister-in-Christ, Jan Phillips.
A memorial service for Aileen will be held at First Baptist Church of Middleburg, on February 23, at 11:00 with Pastors Ralph Estevez, Todd Jones, and Mike Lewis officiating. A time of visitation with the family will begin one hour before the service at 10:00.
