An 11-year Orange Park resident said they wanted a deeper look into who exactly is on their town’s council, how they are elected and how long they stay seated.
After taking a look at the town’s charter, I found that the council always consists of five members, elected by qualified voters of the town. In order to run, the candidates must be qualified electors of the town, U.S. citizens and reside within the corporate limits of the town for at least a year before the date of their qualifying for office.
Currently, Councilman Randy Anderson resides in Seat 5. Anderson has served on the council since 2019 and has served as mayor.
Councilwoman Winnette Sandlin resides in Seat 2. Sandlin has served on the council since 2023 and has served as vice-mayor. Sandlin retired as department manager from First Coast Service Options after 30 years and has been a resident of the town for over 25 years.
Councilman Doug Benefield resides in Seat 1 and was elected to council in 2023. Benefield is a partner/founder of Elevated CPA, a local accounting firm, and a lifelong Orange Park resident.
Councilman Glenn Taylor was sworn into Seat 3 in 2024. Taylor is a Florida Real Estate attorney and Certified Public Accountant.
Councilman Kenneth Vogel was elected to Seat 4 in 2024.
Each elected council member serves up to three consecutive terms, three years each. The council also elects a new mayor and vice-mayor every year.
