ORANGE PARK — Following intense condemnation from local town residents, a permanent liquor store was scrapped from the future plans of 1345 Park Ave.

But it looks like groceries have made the cut.

The Market on Park Ave. has a new sign plastered where the former Lending Bear used to be, taking the place of what was once the object of much discourse earlier this year.

An item to transform the 2,646-square-foot former money lending facility, between Stiles and Blake Avenues, into a liquor store first came before the town’s Planning and Zoning Board back in March.  Many residents, who lived just 300-500 feet from the building, expressed their opposition to the project. And in the end, the applicants withdrew the application due to an incorrect liquor store survey they had submitted.

According to the town, the property's newest tenant applied for a business tax grocery store, which is permitted in that zoning district.

As of now, a business tax has not been issued.  And there is no word on when The Market on Park Ave. will officially open.
